DARKROOMS are back!! No matter your age, you've surely heard of them, but how many are actually still around? If you love photography, and here's hoping that's why you're here reading this right now, you're in luck!
Leicester LoFi, a wonderfully open minded group of keen photographers, creative individuals and all round lovely bunch of people open up Manor House every Tuesday 6 - 9pm for anyone and everyone to experience traditional photography. They have enlargers, chemicals, boxes upon boxes of film, black & white, colour, high ISO, old cameras, even older cameras! Polaroids, tanks, home made cameras, spools, you name it - they have it!
If you can't make it to the darkroom on Tuesday afternoons, you can always catch them doing workshops, usually on weekends. Leicester LoFi's Facebook page is full of discussions from your very own darkroom creations to upcoming events and all things photography of course.
During one of the workshops in August this year, a very talented photographer and video maker called Bill Newsinger was among us and made an absolutely gorgeous film about the Lucky Dip Photowalk. His style and composition is just stunning, mesmerizing and warm. We all felt comfortable and trusted him immensely, which is why he was able to make such a beautiful movie.
ZigZag first heard of Leicester LoFi during the Clarendon Park ArtBeat Festival back in June this year, a fantastic event to be a part of and sponsor might we add! We like to think our friendship blossomed from there, with us being so digital and LoFi being traditional, we're all tasting the different aspects of photography, and it's important to remember and respect your elders!
At the ArtBeat Festival, ZigZag bear had his photo taken with an Afghan camera, the results are kind of creepy, but we love it anyway.
Please do keep up to date with these guys, follow their Facebook page, pop along to Manor House on Tuesdays, 6 - 9pm, look out for their workshops or just ask if you're curious! It's well worth it if you're big into this stuff, there's nothing to lose and everything to gain! We will most definitely keep writing about Leicester LoFi, there are many things on the horizon for them and we hope to see a lot more of their stuff!
